Just this past weekend, I was utterly shocked on two separate occasions! Twice, and during daylight hours, I erroneously pulled into traffic nearly cutting off an oncoming motorcyclist who had the right of way and I had not seen. Realizing what I’d just done, my heart was beating my chest at 100 miles an hour. No doubt his/hers was pounding the same or even harder. Both near misses occurred during the brightness of a clear blue day, once while looking toward the early morning sun and the other at the peak of mid-day. Then I asked myself, “Why don’t motorcyclists ride with their high beam lights on during daylight rides?” It wouldn’t impose much on motorists they encounter like it would driving at night, and it would certainly make them more visible during daytime traffic. Regardless, both these crashes would have been my fault had God not been watching out for us both.
Folks, even though fall is upon us, motorcycles are still on the roads. Please don’t neglect to make time and LOOK THRICE for motorcyclists. It could mean the difference between a revelation and a tragic ending. On a more sour note, if you’re not certain you, your family or the motorcyclist’s family could recover from an incident such as mine, were we to trade places, than please come see us.
